Alternative Placement - Homebound
|
Homebound Instructional Services are part-time instructional services provided to a regular or special education student who has a medically diagnosed medical or psychological/emotional condition that confines the student to the home environment or hospital for more than 10 consecutive days. Homebound is not intended to take the place of the educational program obtained through regular school attendance. In order for homebound services to be approved, the expected duration of the medical/psychological/emotional condition that prohibits school attendance must be a minimum of 4 consecutive weeks. To apply for homebound, the parent must contact the school to obtain the appropriate papers for completion by the physician(s).

Assistive Technology
|
Assistive Technology (AT) refers to “any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially off the shelf, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of children with disabilities.” In education, AT serves to enhance learning and support classroom performance and participation for students who qualify for special education services according to Bulletin 1508, the Louisiana Pupil Appraisal Handbook.
AT can range from pencil grips and raised-line paper to screen reading software and high-tech speech-generating devices. AT supports include the selection, acquisition, and use of AT including evaluation and training for students, family, and professionals. AT encompasses a broad range of devices from very simple (low technology) to very sophisticated (high technology) or somewhere in between on that continuum. AT must be considered for a student at every IEP meeting.

Gifted and Talented |
Livingston Parish Public Schools offer services for students identified as gifted and/or talented in grades K-12. Parents can request their child be screened for gifted and/or talented services by asking their child's teacher to refer him or her for screening. Teachers can request a student be screened for gifted and/or talented services by emailing a referral to the chairperson of the School Building Level Committee (SBLC). If the student passes the screening, a recommendation for an evaluation is made. If the student qualifies for an exceptionality, a committee will then develop an Individualized Education Program (IEP) for the identified eligible student. Students receive services based on their individual needs as identified in the evaluation.
The gifted program provides students enrichment or accelerated academic services, where higher level and critical thinking skills permeate the curriculum.
The talented program provides enrichment for students to further their artistic abilities in theater, visual arts, and/or music. Students may qualify for one or more of the areas and will receive instruction as recommended by their evaluation. Students are pulled from a non-academic course to receive enrichment services.
