The words character, commitment, competence, and confidence are written on the walls of the band room at Walker High School.  But these words are not just meant for decoration, they are the foundation for the success of the band that is known as "The Band of Legacy."  Under the direction of Jeff Seighman since 2002, the band has consistently scored superior ratings in Marching Band and Concert Band and 2006 is was no exception.  At the Dutchtown Marching Festival in October, the Band, Colorguard, and Drumline all received superior ratings, the highest ratings a group can receive.  The band also traveled to Natchitoches, LA in November, and competed in the Spirit of Northwestern Marching Festival.  Bands in attendance were from Louisiana, Mississippi, Texas and Arkansas.  The Band, Colorguard, Drumline and the Drum Major, Dayton Craig, all received superior ratings and the band was also chosen "Best in Class" out of 10 bands in their class. The marching band also marched in 6 parades total including the LSU Homecoming Parade, Walker Christmas Parade, 3 Mardi Gras Parades including Denham Springs and The Wearing of the Green St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
The Symphonic Band had some great performances also as they performed for a Christmas concert, the Veteran’s Day Program at WHS, and their spring concert.  The band also performed at District Band Festival where they received all superior ratings.  The biggest accomplishment though however came when they performed at State Festival in Lake Charles.  The Band received an excellent rating in sight reading but also received a superior rating in concert performance.  In the history of Walker High School, the band has only received 3 superior ratings in concert performance at State Festival:  1972, 2002 (Catherine Heard, director) and 2007.
