VISITORS TO SCHOOLS

The Livingston Parish School Board welcomes and encourages parents and other school patrons to visit our facilities at appropriate times. In fact, special programs, athletic events and/or visiting days may be planned throughout each school year to provide opportunity for such visits. During these school related functions (special programs, athletic events and/or visiting days), visitors attending may go directly to same, but will abide by state/local law and/or Board policy. Each administrator shall be responsible for establishing procedures that ensure the proper protection of instructional time and the welfare of students, visitors and employees. In accordance with state and local laws, no person is allowed on Livingston Parish School Board owned property without authorization from the Superintendent and/or campus administrator. Visitors to a school shall immediately report to the campus administrator's office, and verify who they are and state their purpose/business. If at all possible, all visits should be pre-arranged.

Parents, school patrons and other state/local officials shall be welcomed in a cordial manner. Anyone appearing at a facility who does not meet the criteria indicated above, shall be required to get written permission from the Superintendent's office prior to visiting a facility. Administrators are authorized to take any action deemed appropriate, in his/her discretion, in dealing with unauthorized visitors.

The Livingston Parish School Board, in accordance with state and local laws, shall authorize the Superintendent or designee, administrators, or school security guards to search the person, and any item in the possession of a person who is not a student enrolled in school in this District, while in or on any Livingston Parish School Board owned property. The search may be conducted at random with a metal detector, or physically when there is reasonable suspicion that such person (visitor/employee) has any weapons, illegal drugs, alcohol, stolen goods, or other materials which violates state/local laws and/or Board policy.
