ELECTRONIC TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICES

 

No student shall use, possess, or operate any electronic telecommunication device, including any facsimile system, radio paging service, mobile telephone service, intercom, or electro-mechanical paging system in any elementary, middle or secondary school building, or on the grounds thereof or in any school bus used to transport public school students, unless in the event of an emergency as declared by the principal or his/her designee or after regular school hours as directed by a school official.

A violation of these provisions shall be grounds for disciplinary action, including but not limited to, suspension from school.

The principal or his/her designee shall not impose on a student any disciplinary actions when any electronic telecommunication device is stored in a motor vehicle and there is no evidence of the student’s intent to use or operate the device during the instructional school day.

A properly authorized medical device worn by a student shall not be in violation of this policy.
